Pet Nanny Press
May 2007
Dear Pet Lovers,
As the warm weather is among us (WAHOO!), everyone is out and about with
their pets. As fun as this time is for you and your pooch, the privilege
comes with responsibility, which is why I have tailored this months
newsletter to remind everyone to have fun in the sun with their pal, but
to also be responsible for their pet's behavior, and be courteous to
fellow pet owners!
I have also included some warm weather pet care tips, and will continue to
do as the sun heats up!
On a personal note, Billy and are expecting our first baby. She's due in
late September/ early October. We can't wait! With the new addition I'm
going to have to take some time off. I'll be hiring an office manager to
take care of client communication, emails, scheduling, and accounts
receivable. I plan on having her start in early September, so I can still
be around to iron out any kinks. More to come on this in the next issue.
Be Happy, Healthy and Well,

Preventive Tips for the Warm Weather
By
Colleen Sedgwick
Taking these preventative measure for your pet's safety and well being,
will insure a happy fun-filled Spring and Summer!
For Dogs and Cats: Buy flea and tick spot-on protection! This will
save you (and your baby) weeks, or months of torture and bad times dealing
with those nasty buggers!
Add a salmon oil (omega 3) supplement to your pet's food! Many skin
allergies start to rear their ugly head right about now...this supplement
is the the END ALL BE ALL ANSWER! It makes coats conditioned, clear,
soft...and helps skin allergies 10-fold! Also works wonders for shedding
and dandruff too!
Groom your pet for the season! Get rid of Winter's old hair and
bring out that shiny new coat! Do it yourself. Give a good brush, a good
shampoo, another good brush while shampoo is still on to remove even more
old fur/hair, rinse...ta dah...just gorgeous!
Always carry a gallon thermos filled with cold, fresh water when
traveling with your pet.
Never leave your pet alone in a vehicle. Even with the windows
open, a parked automobile can quickly become a furnace in no time. Parking
in the shade offers little protection, as the sun shifts during the day.
The right time for playtime is in the cool of the early morning or
evening, but never after a meal or when the weather is humid.
Be especially sensitive to older and overweight animals in hot weather.
Brachycephalic or snub- nosed dogs such as bulldogs, pugs, Boston
terriers, Lhasa apsos and shih tzus, as well as those with heart or lung
diseases, should be kept cool in air- conditioned rooms as much as
possible.
A Couple Notes on Pet Manners
By
Colleen Sedgwick
WALKING YOUR DOG:
When you come upon a fellow dog owner, and they let you know that
their baby isn't friendly, BELIEVE THEM! Just because your pal may be a
love machine, doesn't mean they will hit it off. And vice versa: if your
dog is 'iffy' around other dogs, DON'T LET HIM NEAR ANY OTHER DOGS HE DOES
NOT ALREADY KNOW! It's not worth it. By the way, ALWAYS pick up after your
dog, rain doesn't make dog poop disappear.
SOCIAL HOUR: The dog park is a blast...if not comic relief. All of
those dogs romping around a mile a minute is ALWAYS a hoot! Don't let too
much laughing lead to crying people!!! Since dogs are animals, they behave
like them. Which means it's our job to make sure their manners are in
tact. For instance, if you see your dog repeatedly mounting another dog,
taking away it's fun time at the park, PUT A STOP TO IT. If you cannot get
your dog to stop, leave the park! Put yourself in other owners (and dogs)
shoes. It's not fair if you have a problem child that bullies everyone
else! If a fight should ensue (again they behave like animals), take
responsibility for your dog, and exchange numbers with the owner(s). It's
the right thing to do, and it will keep our pet owning community united.
Oh...dog poop doesn't disappear at the dog park either...please pick it
up.
Summer Cancellation Policy
The summer is a busy time for myself and my Pet Nannies, which sometimes
causes us to turn away business to accomodate reservations for our current
clients. Therefore, I would like to remind you that during the summer
months (Memorial Day to Labor Day) I require 2 weeks notice for
cancellation. Your understanding is greatly appreciated!
Again, thank you!
